BUDDY MOVIES

This term was first used by Molly Haskell to describe a particular kind of sexist Western coming to prominence since the 1960s. In buddy movies the friendships between a particular set of male friends transcends any male-female relationships that might present themselves. Examples from the post-Western era include The Professionals(1966), The Wild Bunch(1969), The Magnificent Seven (1960), and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969).
